What is ABS?

Mercedes-Benz testing the ABS system
in year 1978.
So, ABS. Most of you should know, but if you don't, it's fine, because that's about to change.

The system of ABS
ABS stands for 'Anti-Lock Braking System' - yes, it does sound complicated, but it is fairly simple in reality. Simply put, it's a system which prevents your brakes from locking - which means it's preventing you from skidding in straight line for your control. It does that by activating and deactivating brakes(yes it sounds weird), instead of keeping them "locked" and causing you to lose control of your vehicle. This system comes in handy especially in rain - on wet surface, you literally "slide" when your brakes are locked, which turns your car into a uncontrollable death trap instead of making it a safe place to be in rain.
As I said, it brakes, then releases,
then brakes and it repeats until the dangerous situation is over.
This system was first put in use in year 1970 in Chrysler Imperial. System was called "Sure-Brake" and it was very reliable. It was first and option, but in 1971 it became a standard. After these were revealed, companies started to develop their own ABS systems. In 1971, Nissan introduced EAL system, which was the first electronic ABS for Japan.
Some years later, in year 1988, BMW has revealed the first motorcycle with electric-hydraulic ABS system. It was BMW K100.
ABS explained simple.
As you know, this is a safety system. Which means, it's made or used to reduce bad statistics, right? And it did. a LOT.
ABS has reduced 18% of vehicle crashes and reduced amazing 35% run-off-road crashes.
ABS was is one of many inventions that changed the world and the definition of the word 'safety'. It also has become a symbol of safety of cars alongside ESP. It has changed the technology and has been a giant leap for technology.

P.S.: Thanks for reading! I tried to explain it the simpliest way, but since I'm 15, I am not sure if I did that. If yes, comment! If not, comment why! Opinions and tips are welcome :)
